Winner of Vijay TV AirTel Super Singer 2008 is…
The finalists were Renu, Ravi and Ajesh.
03 June 2009 was the Grand Finale. The three singers sang live in front of a huge crowd.
The VIP guest for the evening who announced the winner was Yuvan Shankar Raja.
After a long winding evening in which the three final contestants sang two songs each, public voted placing Renu at the third place, Ravi to the second place and Ajesh as the winner giving him more over 250,000 votes out of some 570,000 votes polled.
Renu won Rs.50K worth LCD television, Ravi Rs.200K and the winner Ajesh won Rs.700K worth car and the chance to sing for Yuvan Shankar Raja.
I wanted Ravi to win but expected that Ajesh would turn out to be the winner. There was quite a lot of surrogate promotion made for Ajesh (banners and placards with his name was seen more than for anyone else). In any case, I think Ravi didn’t do any good for himself choosing “Kallai Mattum Kandal” as his final rendition while Ajesh sang the “tham thamtha num thanumtham” from Kadhal Oviyam (he had sung this song even in the semi-finals).
I was disappointed with Ravi’s choice of song. He should have chosen something that had more swarams and gave him a better chance to show his singing talent. He had the golden opportunity of being the last singer in the final round which he could have easily used to make a lasting impression on the public.
In any case, Vijay TV had closed the voting long before the second song was sung. That was a surprise too. I know it because I tried voting when the singers had just completed the first song and I could not vote.
That makes me doubt if the winner had been chosen earlier itself! (No poll is reliable in India these days, I guess!)
In spite of such doubts, I really was moved to see the happy emotions on the face of Ajesh’s mother after he was announced the winner. It was like “yeendra pozhudhin perithuvakkum than maganai saandron ena ketta thaai” (The mother who hears her son called “a wise man” will rejoice more than she did at his birth) when Ajesh’s mother went to the stage to lovingly kiss her son Ajesh the title winner.

it seems to be orchestrated. they wanted a girl in the final so chose renu than ranjani as renu “looks ” better thanthe other.
all the way all the judges said ravis songs were awesome and he is near perfect singer.
what happened in middle?
did yuvan wanted ajeesh to be the winner and hence vijay tv obliged?
did ravi had any tiff with the vijay tv or some organiser?
if he has done well till the final and all agreed then are the public not wise?

The judges seem to have been partial throughout. Unni, Srini and Sujatha have all expressed their personal views and favouritism at every stage of the programme. They have not been impartial and balanced.
Ravi was a consistent performer from the beginning till the end and hence should have been the obvious choice. Ajeesh did not perform well in the beginning but started doing well when he was brought into the final rounds. To declare him as the Super Singer purely based on the final rounds is not fair to the other singers who have been far more consistent like Ravi and Ranjani. Whatever be the result i am happy that they finally concluded this programme.
Let us hope they show a better programme for 2009 with impartial and balanced judges. This is the only way we can forget the bad memories of Super Singer 2008.

I somehow feel the “Kaadhal Oviyum” song singer has been always the winner, Now Ajesh, earlier Krishnamurthy in the Junior version.
Someone wants them to sing that way !!!
I guess Yugendran spoke/danced because many bloggers? or Hemamalini out of the final show again because of the popularity (or the lack of it).
When everyone involved was present, where was Chinmayee? (or was she there, since i didn’t see the complete telecast)

RAVI congrats for topping up the second place…you really rock in your songs da….I really admire ur sincerity and passion towards music..Its felt when you sing itself….. Dont lose hope..winning title is no way needed to prove your versatile talent buddy..U always the best.. so keep going:-)have a good future…

Many disputes from many sides, but the end is done. As I said the final winner would be the most deserving one to fight in the music industry. There were no cheating as the votes for the 1st 2 levels of finals itself was enough to give Ajesh a huge lead. Yuvan didn’t have any compulsion, it was just that he said, the best of the 5 who recorded with him in his studio, he preferred Ajesh and Ranjini and would allow Prasana to sing kuthu songs. In the final 3 levels, Ajesh won with the judges marks with 1st level, 2nd level Ravi lead and the finale with Ajesh’s 2nd song, he won by far.
Congrats to all 5 as they will be staring a busy life for next one year.

This has been one of the most viewed and followed talent contest programs in india and abroad, by tamilians all over the world.
Throughout this competition, there is a feeling that the judges have been favouring the eventual winner “Ajeesh”. Not to take away any credit for him, his singing always used to be one-dimensional and more towards melody. While he never received any remarks for this, where as the others were criticised for same style of singing.
To highlight in one of the rounds (last few), the only one who was not spot selected was Ajeesh, and all other contestants were spot selected for the next round. What that means, even to the layman he is eliminated from the contest, but not for the judges, he was given another chance to sing (with no one else to compete with him), and based on that performance qualified for the next round..
Even good performances from the ever consistant Ravi is rewarded with only few praising words, where as the performance of Ajeesh is always praised with standing ovations, and out of the world comments.
Through this forum lets applaud the efforts and performances of the consistant singers “Ravi” and “Ranjani”
As every one said,i do feel that there was a soft cornor from everyone for ajeesh which is not acceptble at all.The real talent has been defeted,his name is ravi.The concept of public voting should be avoided and the winner should be selected by the panel of real professional singers.Hope vijay tv comes with better ideas from next time around.FORGET………and FORGIVE…………..

It is definitely a wrong decision to announce Ajesh as the winner. He just cannot match Ravi’s talent. Ravi should have been the obvious winner. I think students favouritism has brought luck to Ajesh.

Though I was not able to watch the final few episodes, I was damn sure that Ravi or Renu should be the one to win the Aitel Super Singer title. But unfortunatley when I was heard that Ajeesh was the winner, I can’t tolerate it. Ravi, Renu and Ranjani you people had really rocked. Definitely U will have a bright future………
Renu Having such a glorious voice like Shreya Ghoshal and also her singing is really equals to a music playback singer so she must b selected to b the titlw winner but the show ppl r not realistic already they fixed a person… But im sure tat real talents wil b praised and surely they ll go to heigher heights in the world than the faked one… RENU dont worry da al the best 4 u and god is alwaz watching so never mind wat others tel u knw abt u and ur performance k. If I hv enough money surely ll celebrate a function for u and make u a music play back singer for my films da… take kare and keep rocking k… Nallu fans irunthalum unaku unmaiyana fanz irukom k alwaz im praising u for ur singing and character by sitting on ur feet… Take kare never mind anything u alwaz real and gud for us
