IPL 2 – Day Four – when the gayle struck

22 April 2009 502 views 4 Comments

When gale strikes where cricket is played there can be no match. If you ask y and I put it in the middle of a gale, it is Gayle who strikes and even then there can be no match or rather no full match.

There was no gale but only rains on the fourth day of IPL2. Two different versions of the rain. One, the rain of runs from the blade of Gayle and then the rain when the heavens tried to innovate to make cricket a water sport.

Just check if there are Kings XI players running for and with cover

Have the Kings XI players changed uniform while running for cover?

Day Four was planned to be a doubleheader day. But it headed nowhere in that direction. In fact, the day was beheaded to be a half-header.

There may be several chases that Yuvraj might love, like the runs that he chases down to win or the beautiful girls who chase him down! But a successful chase by the opposition team (aided by rain) might be something that Yuvraj will never like.

For his explosive batting and agile fielding there will be many who like Yuvraj, but it seems, Messrs. Duckworth and Lewis are not two of them.

Nothing else explains Kings XI losing two matches in a row on D/L method. It actually appeared as if they were in a row with M/s D & L.

The way Sehwag and Gambhir batted in the first game and Gayle blasted in this game, Kings XI would have still lost the match if it ran the full course. But the full satisfaction of losing a match completely was not to be for Kings XI as the rain came to spoil sport.

When the match started, the first thing I looked at was the team of KKR. I wanted to check if they dropped Dada and retained Agarkar. Even Duckworth Lewis could not have helped KKR if they played Agarkar in this match. I will say KKR started with a distinct advantage in the match when they dropped Agarkar.

Without Agarkar playing Kings XI scored at the rate of 7.90 runs an over. I cannot imagine how much they would have accumulated had Agarkar played for KKR. Kings XI played very well after losing some early wickets to Ishant and Ganguly’s pace.

They fell to Ishant because he bowled real fast and to Ganguly because it was too slow that the they lost patience waiting for the ball. Irfan Pathan, Yuvi and Sangakkara and in the end Jayawardene played real attacking cricket to put life into the Kings XI innings but Gayle came and removed the ventilator.

Gayle is so huge and powerful that the bat appears like a spoon and the ball a gulab jamun when he plays. For the second time in IPL2 sixes outnumbered the fours in an innings spanning a reasonably long. To prove that life is a circle, the first time it was Kings XI that scored more sixes than fours in their truncated match against Delhi Daredevils and this time it was Kings XI at the receiving end.

I am happy that my second favorite team won the match and even more happy that Dada had a hand two hands in it. Before Gayle could take the wind out of the sails of Kings XI rain came to decide the fate of the match. That also meant that Yuvraj and team would not get the hug from Preity Zinta for the second time in a row!

Rest of the fourth day became a rest day (or night) for Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals that we had to unfortunately miss the Royal challenge of Warne to Tendulkar and vice versa. Fans were forced to watch highlights of the earlier matches of IPL2 on Setmax.

You can also do that by reading the below (even if you have read them before):

IPL2 – Day one

IPL2 – Day Two – it rained but runs

IPL2 – Day Three – Haydharan

Those who could watch Setmax also had a nice and breathtaking darshan of Mandira Bedi (in tight outfits) interviewing Shah Rukh Khan, unfortunately I do not have that video for you! No one can now say that I am making these daily posts on IPL 2 for no rhyme or reason. Shah Rukh laid to rest all rumors about rifts with Dada almost saying that without Dada there was no KKR team.

SKR also canvased support for the prisoners in Bengal who want to be allowed to watch IPL matches on the television. Possibly they are also prisoners of cricket?

Those think I have no rhyme or reason making commentaries of IPL matches, I am pleased to present both a rhyme and a reason.

The rhyme:

Rain Rain go away
Come again another day
Lalit Modi wants the play
Rain Rain go away

The reason:

I nurse the hope that some of you who come to read this post do encourage me by getting interested in the Google advertisements that appear on this page helping me to make some money.

Nice Narration. Gayle was extremely angry and harsh. I think his innings was the most powerful so far in this IPL2.

I like his way of hitting the short deliveries. Gayle thy name Brutal.

Ganguly chipping in with two wickets was timely and he is another senior who proved that its not just bowling/batting but all about application.

With the way IPL2 is going, I think shortly you might have to change your favorites list. But this is very early to decide on anything.

    Vijayasarathy,

    Thenk u!

Yes it is too early to decide on anything. With each team to play the other twice and it being foreign soil things can turnaround for any team.

Hope you watched the way Gilchrist played yesterday. By far the best innings.

I agree that it is too early to predict the winners and it is extremely difficult seeing the way Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Bombay and Chennai are playing.

    Anand,

Yes. I watched Gilli. Super batting; as also Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli.
