சோ-வின் எங்கே பிராமணன் – ஒரு வித்தியாசமான தொடர்
எந்த தொலைக்காட்சியை பார்த்தாலும், நெடுந்தொடர்கள், சினிமா சிரிப்புத்துளிகள், ரியல்டி ஷோ (தமிழில் என்ன?) எனப்படும் பாட்டு, நடன (ரிகார்ட் டான்ஸ்), சிரிப்பு ராஜா போட்டிகள் என்று நிரம்பி வழிகையில் (மக்கள் தொலைக்காட்சி இதில் சேர்த்தியில்லை) ஜெயா டி வியில் வரும் சோ-வின் எங்கே பிராமணன் ஒரு வித்தியாசமான தொடர்.
சோ நீண்ட நாட்களுக்கு முன் துக்ளக்கில் எழுதிய கதையை மெருகேற்றி நெடுந்தொடருக்கு ஏற்றவண்ணம் பாத்திரங்களையும் சம்பவங்களையும் அதிகரித்திருப்பதாக சோ அவர்களே எடுத்த எடுப்பில் தெளிவு படுத்தினார்.
புகழ் பெற்ற நாடகக் கதாசிரியரும், சில நாடகம் சார்ந்த திரைப்படங்களை (தாம்பத்தியம் ஒரு சங்கீதம், சுபமுகூர்த்த பத்திரிகை) இயக்கியவருமான வெங்கட் இந்தத் தொடரை இயக்குகிறார்.
இதுவரை பத்து பகுதிகள் முடிந்து இருக்கின்றன. இந்த பத்து கதாபாத்திரங்களில் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்ட முக்கிய கதாப்பாத்திரங்கள் அனைத்துமே பிராமணர்கள். ஆனால் ஒவ்வொருவரும் ஒவ்வொரு விதம்.
பிராமண நியமங்களை அப்படியே சிரத்தையாக கடைபிடிக்கும் ஒரு சாஸ்த்திரிகள் அவருடைய குடும்பம். இவரது முதல் மகனும், மருமகளும் பிராமண நியமங்களையும் கடைபிடிப்பதில்லை, இவருடனும் இல்லை.
வீட்டில் பக்கா பிராமணராகவும், வெளியில் வணிகராகவும் உலவும் ஒரு சமூக அந்தஸ்த்து மிக்க பணக்காரர், அவருடைய மனைவி – மேல்தட்டு பழக்கவழக்கங்களும், படாடோபமும் நிறைந்தவர் - பிராமணனுக்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டாக விளங்கும் இவர்களின் மகன் (இவர்தான் கதையின் நாயகன் என்று தோன்றுகிறது. இந்த தம்பதிகளின் கவலை தங்கள் மகன் பணம், பொருள், அலங்காரம் இவற்றின் மேல் ஆசையில்லாமல் இருப்பதுதான். இந்த கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடிப்பவர் தொலைக்காட்சி தொடர்களில் புகழ் பெற்ற நடிகர் அஃப்ஸர் – ஒரு இஸ்லாமியர் இந்த கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடிப்பது அவருடைய மத நல்லிணக்கத்தையும், தயாரிப்பாளர் மற்றும் இயக்குனரின் நல்லிணக்கத்தையும் காட்டுகிறது, மகிழ்ச்சி அளிக்கிறது);
பிராமண கலாச்சாரங்களை நம்பாத, கிட்டத்தட்ட நாத்திகரான ஒரு பிராமண குடும்பத்தலைவர்; இந்த கலாசாரத்தில் ஊறிய அவர் மனைவி, மகன், மகள்;
ஒரு நீதிபதி, அவர் இரண்டாம் மனைவி, முதல் மனைவியின் மகள்; இவர்கள் அனைவரும் அளவோடு பிராமண சம்பிரதாயங்களை கடைபிடிக்கிறார்கள்;
இவர்கள் வீடுகளில் (சாஸ்த்திரிகள் வீட்டைத் தவிர) திவசம், தர்ப்பணம் ஆகியவற்றுக்கு வாத்தியார் ஆக இருக்கும் ஒரு நடுத்தர குடும்ப்பத்து குருக்கள், அவரது மனைவி, இரண்டு மகன்கள், ஒரு மகள். (இரண்டு மகன்களில் ஒருவருக்கு நீதிபதியின் மகள் மீது காதல் அரும்பியிருக்கிறது).
முதலில் சொன்ன பணக்கார வணிக பிராமணரின் நண்பரான பிராமணரல்லாத ஒரு அரசியல் தலைவர்.
இந்த பாத்திரங்களை வைத்துக்கொண்டு தெளிவாக கதை பின்னியிருக்கிறார்கள். இதுவரை நாம் பார்த்த நெடுந்தொடர்களிலிருந்து முற்றிலும் வேறுபட்டு, துரோகம், பிறன்மனை நோக்குதல், அடுத்தவரை கவிழ்க்க சதி செய்யும் பெண்கள் என்று எதுவும் இல்லாமல இந்த தொடர் செல்கிறது.
முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரங்களில், நீலு, கதிர்மணி கோபி, குயிலி, நளினி, கோலங்கள் நாகலட்சுமி, டெல்லி குமார் ஆகியோர் நடிக்கிறார்கள்.
வயதாகிவிட்டதாலோ அல்லது நேரமின்மையாலா சோ எந்த கதாபாத்திரத்தையும் இதில் ஏற்கவில்லை. ஆனால், அந்த குறை நமக்கு வராத வண்ணம், ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் நகரும் கதையை ஒட்டி சில கருத்துக்களை சோ தொடரின் தயாரிப்பாளரோடு விவாதிப்பதாக அமைத்திருக்கிறார்கள்.
அதில் சோ தனக்கே உரிய நையாண்டியுடனும், மதிநுட்பத்தோடும், பிராமண சம்பிரதாயங்களையும், நம்பிக்கைகளையும் விளக்குகிறார். இது இந்த தொடரின் சிறப்பு என்றால் கொஞ்சம் கூட மிகையில்லை.
பிராமண சமூகத்தினருக்கே இந்த தொடர் ஒரு கண்திறப்பாக அமையும் என்பது என் கருத்து. எண்ணற்ற பிராமண குடும்பங்களில் ஒரு புதிய தலைமுறை தலை எடு்த்திருக்கிறது. அவர்களில் பலரும் சமூக கட்டாயங்களில் தங்கள் அடையாளங்களே தெரியாமல் வளர்ந்தவர்கள். அவர்களும், பிற சமூகத்தினரும் பிராமண சமூகத்தை தெளிவு பெறுவதற்கும், அறிந்து கொள்வதற்கும் ”எங்கே பிராமணன்” ஒரு அரிய வாய்ப்பை தருகிறது.
இந்த தொடர் ஒரு வார இதழில் வெளிவருவதைவிட, தொலைக்காட்சி என்கிற சக்திவாய்ந்த ஒரு ஊடகம் வழியே வருவது ஆதார பிராமண, இந்து மத கருத்துக்கள் அதிகமான மக்களை சென்றடைய ஏதுவானது.
வேதங்கள் சொல்வது என்ன ? ஆவணி அவிட்டம் என்றால் என்ன?, பிராமணன் தமிழன் இல்லையா?, அமாவாசை தர்ப்பணம் செய்கையில் யார் யாருக்காக செய்கிறோம் என்பது போன்றவற்றுக்கு விளக்கம் கிடைக்கிறது (ஒவ்வொரு பிராமணனும் தர்ப்பணம் செய்வதற்கு யாருமில்லாமல் இறந்த எல்லா மனிதருக்காகவும்கூட தர்ப்பணம் செய்கிறான் என்பதை சோ தெளிவு படுத்தினார்).
கோலங்களுடன் போட்டி போடாமல், தினசரி இந்திய நேரம் இரவு 8 மணிக்கு ஜெயா தொலைக்காட்சியில் வருகிறது. அனைவரும் பார்க்கவேண்டிய ஒரு தொடர். (நம் வீட்டு பெண்களுக்கு பிடிக்குமா?)

Pidikkadhu nu solradhu ku reason – koncham documentary madiri thonardhu… second – artists are very old artists – glamour ellai which is very much needed for commercial aspects. Engea glamour nu sonnadhu arai kurai aadai ellai – characters selection…. but ennai poruttavarai – those who are acting are the best – so no other choice to increase the viewers……
somewhat i shud say that it is going to be like Kamal-hassan’s movies only few can understand the concepts and accept it as a movie.. This serial is of that type and I really appreciate Jaya TV for telecasting it.

I think, in due course of time, even ladies will start watching Engey Brahmanan simply because it is very informative. Artistes are old but suit the characters.
We have Kolangal Arthi playing a part in Engey Brahmanan. You also have the boy who plays grandson of Neelu. So you cannot say everyone is old.
Kolangal Arthi seems to be a very good artiste. I watched her emote yesterday in Kolangal. She is a fantastic talent. I think she has also acted in some movies as child artiste.
Engay brahmanan is such an excellent serial that all of us in our family have got hooked to it. We make it a point to return home before 8 pm to watch the serial.
The explanations given by Cho are fantastic and an eye opener for all of us. Such a wealth of information and beautiful presentation make this serial stand out from the other meaningless serials
Special mention must be made of the artistes chosen as they fit the roles so perfectly.
Tried to buy the book, however seems to be out of print. Hope the publishers go in for a reprint when the serial is on air.

the serial is worth watching, few suggestions
1- no need to play the title songs fully every time.this will give few more minutes for the main topic
2- the ads are too many. yes they do generate the revenue, yet the importance gets diluted and mainly continuity is lost

I agree with you on the title song observation. They do not play the full title song even in Kolangal these days (it is another matter that they use up the time saved for showing more ads).
As regards the advertisements, I think one has to bear with them especially for this serial as viewership may not be as much as the other popular serial (in my opinion, the reality may be different).
My sons likes the title song (5 year & 3 year old). THey do not understand the depth of the serial, but gets glued to the programme on title song.
Is the ragam mix of Bilahari & Nadanamakriya.
Wonderful serial. It is made 15 years late, my father is no more and I feel lost when I think how much he would have enjoyed this, than any thing else in life.
One of the living legends is Mr. Cho Ramasamy who I think is a born Vaisnavar, but wears vibuthi and speaks very convincingly on the topics he chooses to speak. I particularly like his humility in today’s episode when he spoke on Kanchi Periavar incidence.

Welcome. Engey Brahmanan is a fantastic series from Cho. It is great to see a serial without much of the “serial” masala. It is a grand relief and provides good insight into Hindu religion – even for Hindus. The title song is good as you have said. I do not know anything about Ragaas, except that I have heard some of the names of Ragaas. I would love to see a TV series on Ragaa identification and appreciation.
I do not think Mr. “Cho” Ramaswamy is a vaishnavite.

Mr. Cho is on record in his Thuglak, condemning the actions of Devanathan and no Brahman will accept actions like Devanathan’s.
Coming to Kanchi Periyavargal – it is a slander that is made with no proofs by people who are basically blackmailers. Please go and pose these questions to your political “pagutharivalargal” who are more famous for multiple wives and set-ups.

No doubt the serial is good.
In the forehead (magidu) of the actress enacting the role of Kadambari, traces of kumkumam can be clearly seen.As of now she is still unmarried in the serial.Hope the Director takes care of this

My wife does not miss even a single episode. There are so many things you become aware of in life after you watch an episode. Wonderful attempt to educate people who might not known the true value of being a brahmin but for the clear explanations with quotes from Gita and other epics.
I weicome the producer and director and keep up the good work by producing new serials on newer topics.
