Just saw the breaking news that A R Rahman the Indian music composer has won the Golden Globe for Best Music Score for the film Slumdog Millionaire. The award has come within a week of his 43rd birthday. And what a great way to start the year 2009. I am that bit more happy on this, as Rahman is also a Capricorn like me 
This is a great achievement for the humble man. He always dedicates his fame by saying “Ella pugazhum iraivanukke” (meaning all the praise is dedicated to the God). True, all the praise should be to the God for he only gave A R Rahman to us.
This achievement also gives great happiness and pride to all Indians, especially the music lovers. It is time to rejoice for millions of his fans across the globe.
I became a fan of his when I heard the musical score of his very first movie “Roja” directed by Mani Ratnam. He was just about 20 years old when he scored music for that movie. Over the years he has scored some really unforgettable numbers. I watched the DVD of his live program in the United States some years ago and the fan frenzy for his scores were nothing less than what one would witness for Michael Jackson concerts in his peak. Though there have been many great music directors in Indian cinema, Rahman is the one to put Indian music on global charts.
He introduced several new singers and made his music sound distinctly different from the music of yore. He is a true trendsetter. The Orkut Rahman fans community boasts more than half million members (http://www.orkut.com/Main#Community.aspx?rl=cpn&cmm=16502) standing proof for his popularity amongst the public.
The youth icon that he is, Isai Puyal (Music Storm) might have just won the big award but had stormed in to the hearts of music lovers much long before.
What next? An Oscar? We will wait for you dear Rahman.

Rehman completely deserves it and its not a kind of windfall like our Miss World/Universe. He had to come across lots and lots of undue criticism (for copying or repeating), until he identified & established himself with a unique sound of his music. His humbleness is a rare thing to see in such a popular and sought after person. As you wished there are billions of people waiting for his Oscar Award and am sure he is heading towards that.
